The prototype is based on the S550 Mustang GT. It is sporting light camouflage at the front, along with various parts from different Mustang variants. The lower splitter, side skirts, and dual-tip dual exhaust are options on EcoBoost and GT models. While the Mach 1 Handling Pack wheels are the available ones.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this test mule is its execution of rear brakes. While the standard Mustang GT has a small rear brake caliper, the mule mounts a larger one at the “forward” end. The mule also places a smaller parking brake on the “back”. This configuration isn’t found on any S550 Mustang variant or model. According to our sources, this new brake system could be due to AWD. Similar brake systems can be found on the Charger GT AWD and BMW M850i as well as Infiniti Q50 Red Sport. Data collection is indicated by the cables that enter the cabin via each wheel. Based on the engine and exhaust sounds we heard while taking images, this model likely had a 5.0L Coyote v8 underneath.

Engine
We don’t yet know the engine that will power the 2023 Ford Mustang S650. Some information may hint at the future of the pony car range. Ford’s PowerBoost hybrid technology, which is found in the F-150, will power the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine as the base engine. The 5.0L V8 will likely remain in the lineup. However, it will now be the mid-level powertrain option. This engine will also come with a manual transmission, which is a great thing to hear. Some fans might be disappointed by the choice of a top-of-the-line engine, which is a 3.5L PowerBoost Hybrid V6. Although this unit is excellent in the F-150 it was not as powerful as people expected.

As the year progresses, more details about the 2023 Ford Mustang S650 sedan and its brother the S650 will be made public. The August 2022 launch date is most likely. Currently, Mustang is the leader in sales with 72,500 units sold in the United States in 2019. The Dodge Challenger is closely followed by Mustang and Chevy Camaro. It will be interesting to watch this rivalry over the next year.
