2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid Pickup Review

Features

The 2022 Ford Maverick comes in three trim levels: LX (XLT), and the top-tier Lariat. People who have ridden other Ford pickup trucks will be familiar with Ford’s standard trim nomenclature. The base trim comes with the right combination of features such as Cloth upholstery and Power windows. It can upgrade to most of the higher trim levels. The XLT model adds features such as Upgraded upholstery or cruise control to the standard gear.

The Lariat top-spec version comes with a lot of features, including an upgraded driver information display, dual-zone electronic temperature control, and a productivity screen measuring 6.5 inches. Maverick Lariat First Edition, a Special Edition, also exists. It includes additional features such as a black roof and power moonroof, lower door graphics, and 18-inch black wheels. You can purchase it for $1,495 more.

Engine

Two engine options are available for the 2022 Ford Maverick: a Hybrid and an EcoBoost. The Hybrid engine consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. Together, they produce 191 horsepower and 155 lbft of torque. This power would then be transmitted to the wheels via a CVT (Continuously Variable Automat Transmission). The latter engine is the 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, which is combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission that produces 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque.

You can choose between an All-wheel-drivetrain and the EcoBoost engine for the Maverick, or a Front-wheel drivetrain that comes standard with the Hybrid engine. The Ford Maverick can reach 60 mph in less than 8 seconds, while the quarter-mile time and top speeds were not known. All variants of Ford Maverick have a towing capacity of 2000 pounds. This can be increased to 4000 pounds if an optional towing package is purchased. According to reports and company claims, the Ford Maverick is agile and responsive thanks to its compact body. It is also highly maneuverable in the cityscapes and offers comfort for five passengers. Although the Maverick’s towing capacity is 2000 lbs, it seems low-powered enough to allow people to do their basic utility-oriented tasks. The Hyundai Santa Cruz, which was revealed a few weeks back, offers more power and towing capability. The Ford Ranger and Honda Ridgeline offer the most power with huge functionality.

Fuel Economy

The Maverick is a great performer in this segment. Ford has yet to release the exact fuel consumption estimates for the EcoBoost engine, but we do have estimates for the Hybrid engine and they are exceptional for a pickup truck. The combined usage case gives it a fuel consumption of 37 mpg, with 40 mpg on city roads and 33 highways. This is clearly stated in Ford’s brochure. To see the true efficiency, we should wait for practical use and testing on the roads.

Interior

The Ford Maverick’s interior is well-designed. It combines simplicity and practicality in every dimension. To compensate for its compact body, the Ford Maverick has many storage pockets in the doors and under the rear seats. The cabin features comfortable leatherette upholstery and cloth seats. There are also blue-dash and texture upper trims. All controls, including the instrument cluster, are well-organized so that customers can walk right through them in their first position.

Contrary to its rivals, the Maverick’s leg and headroom could pose a problem for those with long legs. The rear seat space is also small. However, most of its competition offers ample room to fit 5 adults without any restrictions. The Hyundai Santa Cruz has a large seating area that can comfortably accommodate people of all sizes. The 2022 Ford Maverick’s interior features include:

  • 4.2-inch driver information display
  • Cloth upholstery in base trims and Leatherette upholstery seats for upper trims
  • Front bucket seats
  • Front-door storage bins
  • Rear bench with flip-up rear-seat cushion, and under-seat storage

Infotainment System

This compact pickup comes with all the features you need to make your commute enjoyable and relaxing after a long workday. The center of the pickup is an 8-inch touchscreen that integrates with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The XL and XLT models come with a 6-Speaker sound system, while those who choose the Lariat trim will be able to enjoy the 8-Speaker B&O Sound System from Bang & Olufsen. We also have 4 USB ports in the upper trims and 2 USB ports on the base trim. There is also a standard wireless charging pad and FordPass Connect. The 2022 Ford Maverick infotainment features include:

  • Touchscreen with infotainment controls and 8-inch central-stack touchscreen
  • Standard Apple Car Play & Android Auto
  • Bang & Olufsen 6 Speaker Sound System and B&O Sound System with 8 Speakers are available on Lariat
  • FordPass Connect with 4G Wi-Fi Hotspot
  • Two USB ports on the front

Exterior

Ford Maverick inherits truck DNA, and it looks just as dynamic as its more expensive siblings. Ford has been doing this for decades. A grille with a high bar is attached to the boxy-shaped front fascia to make it stand out and look strong. Two full-LED Headlamps are mounted on either side of it, sweeping across the corners. The body is also well-chiseled for a more aerodynamic approach and to keep it in good condition.

The 4.5-footbed comes with many options, including tie-downs (6 for the base variant, 10 for the Lariat trims), in-bed outlets, FLEXBED solutions, as well as a multi-position tailgate, which extends the bed’s length by 1.5 feet, to 6 feet. We also have two 400-watt 110V outlets to power your gadgets and appliances of mid-size during weekend trips. The Ford Maverick is the most compact pickup when compared to the Ford Ranger and Honda Ridgeline, which have a more robust body structure. The Ford Maverick is significantly lighter than its counterparts, while the Hyundai Santa Cruz’s weight is not known. The Ford Ranger is the most wheelbase-friendly, while the Santa Cruz has the shortest. However, the Maverick’s shorter wheelbase and dynamic suspension will allow you to overcome more obstacles on rougher roads. The exterior highlights of the 2022 Ford Maverick include:

  • LED Headlamps
  • 4.5 Feet cargo bed
  • 6 Cargo bed tie-down hooks
  • Painted aluminum wheels in 17-inch and 18-inch sizes
  • Headlamps with Wiper-activated LEDs

Safety

We don’t know if the 2022 Ford Maverick has been tested yet by any of the testing agencies. Ford is well-known for its safety record and driver-assistive technology within the pickup truck segment. Ford’s Maverick, the latest addition to its family, did an admirable job of offering a wide variety of passive and active safety features right out of the box. However, most of the Ford Co-Pilot360 Technology features were made available as an option. Among the highlights are:

  • Auto High-Beam Headlamps
  • Rear View Camera
  • Pre-Collision Assist
  • Automated Emergency Braking
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Pre-Collision Assist
  • Pedestrian alert
  • Lane Departure Warning*
  • Lane-Keeping Assist*
  • Hill Descent Control*
  • Blind-Spot Information System*
